Apple Tree - Isaac Newton's Tree

Origin: Lincolnshire, 17th century
Apple Taste: Sweetly flavoured puree
Type: Culinary
Flowering Group : 3
Rootstock: M106
Size : Maiden
Harvest : October
Vigour : Medium

The original Isaac Newton's tree is in Newton's garden at Woolsthorpe Manor in Lincolnshire, under which 'the notion of gravity came into his mind occasion'd by the fall of an apple'. It was propagated from before it's eventual death in 1814. Over the years material has been retained by repropagation, and the trees we offer are direct descendants of the original Newton apple tree. It produces a distinctly ugly cooking apple which is quite shy to crop, but cooks to a sweet delicately flavoured puree. Isaac Newton's tree is only available in very limited numbers.

We donate half of our profit on sales of Isaac Newton's apple tree to Common Ground

See our section on Pollination Groups to help you select your apple trees.
The rootstock for all our apple trees is the most vigorous available. We try to offer as many apple varieties as we can on M25 rootstock, which will produce the standard trees of a traditional orchard, where they would be planted between 6 and 8 metres apart. Please refer to our size guide for details.
Like all our apple trees, we offer Isaac Newton's Tree bare root.. At the height of the lifting season there may be up to a month’s delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders for apple trees taken from March to September are confirmed in September ready for dispatch from November. Please note there is an overall minimum order size of £50.
