 | | | Perennials for Sun or Part Shade: Barberry (Berberis) Small red tinted yellow flowers in Spring are surprisingly popular with bees in particular, and in Autumn the foliage turns rusty-scarlet. It is an excellent berrying plant for birds in winter, along with cotoneaster and mahonia. Its spiny stems provide a good site for nests, and once made the native common shrub a popular hedging plant. Its roots give a yellow dye and its berries a medicinal syrup or jelly. All the Berberis varieties we sell have been awarded the RHS AGM.
