commercial resources If you are a landowner, architect, developer or designer with a question about wildlife or habitat conservation please get in touch. If we don't know the answer ourselves we will know someone who does, and we can also source a wide range of plants and seeds that do not appear on the website. Do also ask if you would like a quote for a larger order size. We provide a full ecological survey and report service through our consultant ecologists for landowners, landscapers, and architects. The Initial Ecological Assessment consists of a desk study, ecological scoping survey and production of a report: Desk study - This starts with a search for designated sites of nature conservation value and previous records of notable habitats and species within the vicinity of the site. Our ecologist also consults with the landowner to find out about their wildlife observations and requirements for the site. Ecological scoping survey - our ecologist carries out a walk-over survey of the site, mapping the habitats present according to standard Phase 1 methodology (JNCC) and using target notes to highlight features of interest and record the dominant plant species present in each habitat. This survey can be done at any time of year. Reporting - A summary report contains the results of the desk study and survey, which also has a hand-drawn Phase 1 plan with target notes on an OS map base and includes appropriate recommendations for ecological enhancement, taking into account the owner's requirements. Our consultant ecologists provide this service for a flat rate fee of £400.00 plus expenses. They can also carry out the following on an hourly fee rate: More detailed plant surveys (e.g. NVC) Amphibian, reptile, badger, dormouse, otter and water vole surveys Habitat creation and/or management plans Detailed ecological enhancement plans
We also offer a sevice for developers through our partnership with Biocensus. An Initial Ecological Assessment (scoping survey) for developers follows similar methodology to that detailed above, but with a more detailed desk study, including contacting local records centres etc. The report highlights potential ecological constraints and opportunities to development, focusing on designated sites, legally protected species and species/habitats of conservation importance, with reference to planning guidelines. Recommendations for further ecological surveys are provided as necessary. Following any further survey work required, we are able to produce an Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) report, which would be suitable to submit in support of a planning application. Fees are quoted on a project-by-project basis for this service.
