  Shade Loving Perennials: Cranesbill (Geranium)
Pretty small flowers held above foliage. Naturalised from central Europe. Very useful groundcover - tolerant of most conditions (we have Dusky Cranesbill in deep dry shade) and attracting a surprising number of insects. It is the food plant of several butterflies and moths, including the Mouse Moth, and was valued in the past as a wound herb. Hedgerow Cranesbill and Wood Cranesbill are a constituent of several of our plug selections, and we can also source Meadow Cranesbill for you on request. The photo is courtesy of Gwirrel's Garden.

Varieties:
'Ann Folkard': brilliant magenta flowers, RHS AGM (illustrated)
'Johnson's Blue': bright blue, RHS AGM
phaeum: Dusky Cranesbill, dark maroon flowers
renardii: silvery leaves, flowers white veined violet
sanguineum: Bloody Cranesbill, magenta red flowers
If we cannot find exactly the variety you would like in the nursery at the moment and we can find a very close alternative, we hope it is acceptable to supply it in lieu. Before we do so, however, we will ask you if you would be happy to accept a substitute.
