Field Scabious (Knautia arvensis)

Field scabious, Knautia arvensis, is one of our most beautiful native plants, flowering between July and September, and a prolific source of nectar for a range of pollinators. It's associated with chalk grassland, and thrives on calcareous well drained soils. "Scabious" is said to relate to scabies, which was supposedly treated with the it. Field scabious is no relation to the similar looking Devil's-bit scabious, Succisa pratensis, which prefers wet, boggy sites. We can help with Devil's-bit scabious on request, and it is a species included in several of our selections for wetter ground.

We supply Field scabious in our selected wildflower trays and seed mixes, but we also sell it on its own here as seed, 55cc plug plants or in more generous half litre pots.

Supplier : British Wildflower Plants / Emorsgate
Our Field scabious plants and seeds have guaranteed UK provenance and are supplied by signatories to the Flora Locale code of practice.

We donate half of our profit on sales of Field scabious to Buglife
