Hedges

Properly maintained, hedges provide a substitute for lost woodland habitat for many species of flora and fauna; the RSPB estimates they now support up to 80% of our woodland birds, which are enduring fierce population falls. Insects, birds, amphibia and mammals all thrive in this ecosystem, which can also provide a corridor for movement. You can find out more about the history of hedges here, and about hedge laying and maintenance in our resources section. We also run one day hedgelaying courses, and encourage pepole to look at our tips on planting and initial care.
