Mazzard Cherry - Hannaford

Hannaford is a variety of edible wild cherry (Prunus avium), or "mazzard". Hannaford flowers earlier than other known varieties, and has very attractive blossom. Mazzards are now very unusual trees, historically associated with the West Country, and the varieties we sell were found in North Devon. Mazzards were, however, once found across England. Michael Gee has written a helpful introduction, "Mazzards" (The Mint Press).

We donate half of our profit on sales of this product to Common Ground

The rootstock for all our fruit trees is the most vigorous available. Colt is a more dwarfing stock, whereas Avium will produce the standard trees of a traditional orchard. Please refer to our size guide for details.

All our mazzard trees are bare root. At the height of the lifting season there may be up to a month’s delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders for mazzards from March to September are confirmed in September ready for dispatch from November. Please note there is an overall minimum order size of £50.
