Nectar Plants for Bumblebees, Honeybees, Butterflies, Moths, and Other Insects

Modern exotics, doubles and bedding annuals are poor nectar and pollen sources compared to our cottage garden perennials and herbs, which can also provide nest sites and shelter in the winter. Our list includes some winter flowering plants and bulbs; milder winters mean that bee colonies starve as they use up their honey stores prematurely if they can find no forage. If you are looking for bee or butterfly plants please also look at our native wildflower plugs and wildflower and grass seed mixes, which will also provide food for butterfly larvae.
