| | | Nest Box - Sparrow Terrace Sparrows have endured a spectacular fall in numbers over the last few years, partly as a consequence of declining nest sites. the RSPB estimated numbers are down by nearly 70% over the last 3 decades. They are known for their sociable nesting habits, although our own sparrow terrace was used by two Blue Tit familes last year. At 43cm across and 13kg, this is a large and heavy box and not suitable for attaching to fences. Shown is the stone coloured version. The entrance hole for any box should usually face south-east - i.e. not in a sun trap, and sheltered from the prevailing weather.
