| | | Pear Tree - William's Bon Chretien Origin: Aldermaston, 1760s Pear Type: Dessert Flowering Group : 3 Rootstock: Quince A Size : Maiden Harvest : September
William's Bon Chretien was renamed 'Bartlett' when taken to the U.S. from a Turham Green nursery run by a Richard Williams in 1797. How it had got there from its original site, Aldermaston in Berkshire, is not known. Lovely taste, hardy and reliable, but better suited to dryer areas. Now the world's most popular pear. William's Bon Chretien is self sterile, so requires a pollinator; see our section on Pollination Groups. Supplier : R.V. Roger Ltd. We donate half of our profit on sales of William's Bon Chretien to Common Ground
All our fruit trees are bare root. At the height of the lifting season - between November and March - there may be up to a months delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders for pear trees from March to September are confirmed in late October/ early November ready for dispatch from November. Please consult our planting and care guide on receipt of your order.
