| | | 221 Bee Baker Street Solitary bees face many of the same issues as their social counterparts but tend not to get the same amount of Press. Odd really, as there are around 230 species of solitary bee in Britain, and they are important and engaging pollinators. Unlike bumblebee nesters, boxes designed to help them seem to work well though, and you will soon be able to see Mason and Leafcutter bees using the box so long as it is positioned in a relatively secluded sunny site, 4 to 7 feet above the ground. This attractive solitary bee box is approximately 220 X 210 X 80mm. Its case is durable western red cedar, which will not need treating with potentially harmful chemicals, and each box is individually hand made in a small workshop in Dorset. The different sized tubes will attract different species of solitary bee.
