 | | | Solitary Bee House Solitary bees face many of the same issues as their social counterparts but tend not to get the same amount of Press. Unlike bumblebee nesters, boxes designed to help them seem to work well though, and you will soon be able to see Mason and Leafcutter bees using the box so long as it is positioned in a relatively secluded sunny site, 4 to 7 feet above the ground. It's a good spot for over-wintering ladybids and lacewings too.
This rustic 40cm high box is made by a young Dorset based carpenter to be both functional and attractive. The case is made from durable cedar from near his workshop, and most of the rest of the materials have been gathered locally.
