Walnut Trees (Juglans nigra and regia)

There are no mature walnuts hereabouts as they were felled mercilessly for their gorgeous wood. They grow very well on our local deep and heavy soil, as you can see from this young tree in our orchard. The Black Walnut is a native of America, whereas the Common, English, or Persian Walnut is from...Persia. It was probably introduced to Britain by the Romans. Walnuts are delicious eaten fresh, as "wet walnuts", and can be pickled or used to make walnut liqueur if picked green earlier in the season. The trees are self fertile.
Soil type: Fertile

Our walnut trees are supplied bare root. At the height of the lifting season there may be up to a month’s delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders for walnut trees taken from March to September are confirmed in September ready for dispatch from November.
