Apple Tree - Adam's Pearmain

As with many apples, the origin of Adam's Pearmain isn't clear. A Mr Robert Adams presented a scion to the RHS in 1826, calling it the Norfolk Pippin, although it was also supposedly about in Herefordshire, where it was called the Hanging Pearmain. All very confusing. "Pearmain" as a description of an apple might have originally referred to its pear shape or the apple's keeping quality (from Old French parmaindre "to endure"). Anyway, Adam's Pearmain is an attractive heavily cropping apple tree producing apples which were particularly popular with the Victorians. London fruiterers apparently found them particularly helpful as they looked good in their shop windows. Bakes well, keeping its heart like shape, and makes a lovely puree.

The rootstock for all our apple trees, including Adam's Pearmain, is the most vigorous available. MM106, or M106, produces a good sized garden tree. Please refer to our size guide for details.

All our apple trees are bare root, so they are only available between November and April. During lifting season, there will be a delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders taken from June-October will be confirmed in late October/ early November after a nursery stock take, for dispatch from November. Please consult our planting and care guide on receipt of your order.

Your purchase helps us support a range of charities, which are related to the products we sell.
