Apple Tree - Egremont Russet

Origin: Petworth, Sussex, early 19th century (probably)
Apple Taste: Nutty
Type: Dessert
Flowering Group : 2
Rootstock: M106 or M25
Size : Maiden (1-2 years old, around 100cm)
Harvest : October
Vigour : Medium

The popular Egremont Russet produces golden russet, richly flavoured, medium sized fruit. It's a good cropper, hardy and resistant to scab, which has helped its enduring popularity since the Victorians. It's also partly self fertile. It's the English russet apple you're most likely to come across in a supermarket as it's robust, reliable, and keeps well. It tastes very good too. The name suggests it came from Sussex but the earliest documentary evidence for it comes in 1872 from the now sadly defunct Scotts Nursery in Merriott, Somerset. Despite its origin, it goes well in colder northern climes too.

Supplier : R.V. Roger Ltd.

Your purchase helps us support a range of charities, which are related to the products we sell.

See our section on Pollination Groups to help you select your apple trees.
We supply apple trees on the most vigorous rootstocks available. They were created specifically for use in the UK and produce healthy, heavy cropping trees for our weather conditions.

M106 produces a good garden sized apple tree, around 4 metres tall. Grown as a free standing tree it won't need staking, although initially best to use a cane to support your new plant. M25 rootstock will produce the 6m standard trees of a traditional orchard, where they would be planted between 6 and 8 metres apart

. Please refer to our size guide for details.
All our apple trees are bare root. At the height of the lifting season there may be up to a month's delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders for Egremont Russet apple trees taken from March to September are confirmed in September ready for dispatch from November. Please note there is an overall minimum order size of £50.
