Apple Tree - Mere de Menage

Origin: European, 18th century
Apple Taste: Sweet
Type: Culinary
Flowering Group : 3
Rootstock: M106
Size : Maiden (1-2 years old, around 100cm)
Harvest: October
Vigour : Strong

Mere de Menage has very hardy, smart large red apples. Widely grown in the 19th century but especially in East Anglia. Confusingly, it's not the apple still known in France as Mere de Menage. It was originally also known here as 'Lord Combermere'; the first Viscount was a distinguished soldier fighting in the Peninsula War and in India. His country pile, an old abbey in Cheshire which he renovated in the Gothic style, had extensive formal gardens.

Supplier : R.V. Roger Ltd.
We donate half of our profit on sales of Mere de Menage to Common Ground

See our section on Pollination Groups to help you select your apple trees.
We supply apple trees on the most vigorous rootstocks available. They were created specifically for use in the UK and produce healthy, heavy cropping trees for our weather conditions.

M106 produces a good garden sized apple tree, around 4 metres tall. Grown as a free standing tree it won't need staking, although initially best to use a cane to support your new plant. M25 rootstock will produce the 6m standard trees of a traditional orchard, where they would be planted between 6 and 8 metres apart

. Please refer to our size guide for details.
