Gage Tree - Reine Claude de Bavay
Origin: Belgium, 1843
Flowering Group : 2
Rootstock: St Julien A
Size : Bush (2 year old tree, over 110cm with at least 3 main shoots)
Harvest : October
Reine Claude de Bavay has an upright compact habit and delicious fruit. It is very popular in France. 'Reine Claude de Bavay' came from a seedling of 'Reine Claude', which is probably what we know as Green Gage. Complicated, I know. Anyway, Claude de Bavay is a beauty, with very tasty fruit. Recommended. Like plums, their close relations (and botanically indistinguishable), gages have lovely blossom which attracts a range of pollinators in spring, including bees, although they can be self fertile.
We supply Reine Claude de Bavay as a bush plant - bigger than a maiden, a 2 or 3 year old plant with 3 - 5 stems.
