Apple Tree - Fortune

Origin: Bedfordshire, 1904
Apple Taste: Sweet, rich, lightly aromatic
Type: Dessert
Flowering Group : 3
Rootstock: M106 Size : Maiden
Harvest : September
Vigour : Medium

The Fortune apple is a Cox's cross raised by the Laxton Brothers in 1904, and shares the fine flavour of it's illustrious parent. It's also known as 'Laxton's Fortune', as distinct from the 'Fortune' apple raise in the mid 1990s by Cornell. The medium-sized yellow flushed red apples are best left on the tree as long as possible to allow the sweet rich aromatic flavour to develop fully. Fortune is resistant to frost and a good cropper.

See our section on Pollination Groups to help you select your apple trees.
We supply apple trees on the most vigorous rootstocks available. They were created specifically for use in the UK and produce healthy, heavy cropping trees for our weather conditions.

M106 produces a good garden sized apple tree, around 4 metres tall. Grown as a free standing tree it won't need staking, although initially best to use a cane to support your new plant. M25 rootstock will produce the 6m standard trees of a traditional orchard, where they would be planted between 6 and 8 metres apart

. Please refer to our size guide for details.
