Bumblebee Nesters

We did think about stocking bumblebee nesters but then thought better of it. We're not sure whether they work very well, unlike solitary bee boxes, and in any case shortage of nest sites isn't the bumblebee's real problem. Faced with global warming and a 97% decline in unimproved grassland, the preferred habitat of many species, there are more helpful things we can do for them.
If you want to help bumblebees, plant wildflower seeds, wildflower plugs, or nectar plants. You could also join The Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
If your heart is set on a nester, then do by all means buy one - there are some very smart ones available - or make one yourself.
