Although a green roof won't be as complex or diverse as a natural habitat it is a great way of helping wildife in an urban setting, particularly when planted with wildflowers rather than sedums. Counter-intuitively, they also have an extended life as the waterproofing is protected from extremes of weather, and also help with insulation and water runoff. They do need to be carefully designed and built, however. We recommend an experienced consultant who can offer a full design, supply, and installation service for green roofs, living walls, and brown roofs (to most closely recreate ground conditions).
