| | | Nest Box - Barn Owl This box represents great value for money. Made out of FSC plywood, it is a light and durable advance on the traditional triangle design. Also available flatpacked. From being the most common owl in Britain in the 19th century, there are now only an estimated 4,000 pairs of Barn Owls in the country. There are as number of reasons for their decline including loss of habitat and habitat continuity, wet summers, pesticides, rodenticides, and increasing road traffic. There are now also fewer nest sites for them. Owl boxes should ideally be hung 3 to 5 metres high, and have a layer of woodshavings or similar on the floor which ideally be cleared out every few years (in the winter). This is easier said than done; although our boxes are lightweight it needs at least two people and a deal of care. You may want to use our installation and siting service. Barn Owls tend to prefer solitary trees as nest sites, ideally with a clear view of grassland, whereas Tawny Owls enjoy a more woodland habitat. Supplier : Specialised Nestboxes We donate half of our profit from sales of Barn Owl boxes to The Hawk and Owl Trust
