Plants and Seeds
Despite current efforts to turn the tide back, the catastrophic loss of ancient meadows - an estimated 97% since 1945 - has had an inestimable impact. Unimproved grassland is one of the most important of our native habitats, and its disappearance seems to be a major factor in recent declines and extinctions of a number of species. Modern planting in gardens has also contributed to the problems faced by pollinators.
If you are planning a meadow area please have a look at our
resources section or watch our
short video on making a wildflower meadow area. We also have a section in the website on
meadow creation. Head over to
Ponds and Rivers to see our lovely aquatic native plants.
