Ornamental Trees for Bees

We sell a number of ornamental "trees for bees", many of which are recommended by the The British Beekeepers' Association because of their value as nectar and/or pollen sources for bees generally - not just honeybees (we've also included the spectacular Foxglove Tree, for example, specifically for bumblebees). Recently, we've looked for drought tolerant trees as well, so you'll find several originate in the Middle East or Mediterranean. Some of these trees are only grown in tiny numbers, so please excuse us if the plant you want isn't currently available.

Planting trees for bees is a great way to help pollinators. You can get a lot of flowers on a tree! Not only are the plants we've selected very striking and sometimes fragrant specimen species, but some of them also have unusual flowering seasons. This adds to their visual appeal in the garden and supplements the pollen and nectar available for bees in spring and summer from native trees and flowers. The apple and  other fruit trees we sell are, of course, also great sources of pollen and nectar for bees in Spring.

We have listed our ornamental trees by their Latin names rather than English synonyms.

None of our trees, plants, bulbs or seeds have been treated with neonicotinoid based pesticides. Unlike all the other plants we sell, some of these bee friendly trees will have been imported. Many are grown in the UK, however.
