Apple Tree - Blenheim Orange
The original Blenheim Orange apple tree was found by a Mr. Kempster, a local cobbler, growing against the boundary wall of Blenheim Park until its demise in 1852. It was known locally as Kempster's Pippin and the original tree was what's known as a "pitcher" - you could stick cuttings into the ground like willow rods and they would strike. It became very well known and in 1804 a Worcestershire nurseryman approached the Duke of Marlborough asking to sell it commercially.
Now rarely sold, Blenheim Orange was popular among Victorians. Fruit are pretty orange / red, sometimes biennial, and last well. The Herefordshire Pomona noted: "The plate represents not only the fruit when fit to gather from the tree, with the leaves and blossom, but also shows the rich ripe tints when it takes its place of honour on the Christmas dinner table." Blenheim Orange trees are strong limbed, with hard wood.

The rootstock for all our apple trees is the most vigorous available. We try to offer as many apple varieties as we can on M25 rootstock, which will produce the standard trees of a traditional orchard, where they would be planted between 6 and 8 metres apart. M106, or MM106, produces a good sized garden tree. Please refer to our size guide for details.
Like all our apple trees, we offer Blenheim Orange bare root. At the height of the lifting season there may be up to a month's delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders for apple trees taken from March to September are confirmed in September ready for dispatch from November. Please note there is an overall minimum order size of £100.
