Cherry Tree - Early Rivers
Origin: Sawbridgeworth, 1872
Cherry Type: Dessert
Size : Maiden
Harvest : Late June
Prunus avium 'Early Rivers' is called "Early" as it's the earliest black cherry to ripen. Not only is it early, but the tree crops heavily and its delicious cherries have very small stones. The tree was grown from a seedling of Early Purple Gean by Thomas River; confusingly we've also heard it called the Kentish Cherry. Self-fertile. Like all cherry trees, its attractive spring blossom is helpful for a range of pollinators including bees.

We donate half of our profits on sales of Early Rivers cherry trees to Common Ground
Please note that we also sell several varieties of edible wild cherry, or "mazzard", and recommend our fruit tree planting kits for all new fruit trees.
Our cherry trees are bare root. At the height of the lifting season - between November and March - there may be up to a month's delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders for Early Rivers cherry trees from March to October are confirmed prior to dispatch from November. Please consult our planting and care guide video on receipt of your order.
