Pear Tree - Hessle
Origin: Hessle, near Hull, 1827
Pear Type: Dessert
Flowering Group : 3
Rootstock: Quince A
Size : Bush
Harvest : October
Certainly much older than its first recorded date, Hessle was also known as the Hazel pear - there's a Hazel Pear pub in Cheshire where it was grown commercially for the Liverpool market. Its name connects it with the Yorkshire town of Hessle, whose good folk have emailed us to say is categorically not part of Hull. It is the hardiest pear we sell, and will thrive in almost any situation. The fruit is juicy and sweet, but really best for cooking. Hessle is self sterile; see our section on Pollination Groups to find a suitable pollinator.

Orders for pear trees from March to September are confirmed in late October/ early November ready for dispatch from November. Please consult our planting and care guide on receipt of your order.
