Jargonelle has been In England from at least the 17th century, when it was first mentioned by John Parkinson in 1629, and has been identified as Pliny's Numidianum Groecum. It is a hardy, reliable cropper and still one of the best early varieties. Jargonelle is Triploid - i.e. it needs trees from two different varieties nearby as pollinators.

All our pear trees, inclduing Jargonelle, are bare root, so they are only available between November and April. During lifting season, there will be a delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders taken from June-October will be confirmed in late October/ early November after a nursery stock take, for dispatch from November.
