Pear Tree - 'Williams' Bon Chretien
Origin: Aldermaston, 1760s
Pear Type: Dessert
Flowering Group : 3
Rootstock: Quince A
Size : Maiden
Harvest : September
'Williams' Bon Chretien was renamed 'Bartlett' when taken to the U.S. from a nursery in Turnham Green run by a Richard Williams in 1797. How it had got there from its original site, Aldermaston in Berkshire, is not known. Lovely taste, hardy and reliable, but better suited to dryer areas. Now the world's most popular pear. 'Williams' Bon Chretien is self sterile, so requires a pollinator; see our section on Pollination Groups.
Supplier : R.V. Roger Ltd.
