Greater Knapweed (Centaurea scabiosa)
Greater knapweed, Centaurea scabiosa, shares the many attractions of Lesser, or Common knapweed. Its flowers are slightly larger and have extended heads, although the main difference between the two are the habitats they enjoy; Greater knapweed is more a flower of taller, less managed swards. Both are equally valuable nectar plants, and flower towards the end of the season, typically from mid July.
