Gage Tree - Green Gage

Origin: Armenia
Type: Dessert
Flowering Group : 3
Rootstock: St Julien 'A': see our guide for details.
Size : Bush
Harvest : August

The Green Gage tree is an irregular cropper, but its gages are delicious eaten straight off the tree. An ancient variety, thought to have arrived in Britain in 1724, when it was imported from Paris by a young Catholic priest, John Gage. It is thought to be the French variety 'Reine Claude', but it lost its label in transit and the gardener at Hengrave Hall, the Gages' fabulous Tudor pile in Suffolk, renamed it after his employers. Like their close and botanically indistinguishable relations, plums, gages have lovely blossom which attracts a range of pollinators in spring, including bees, although they can be self fertile.

We supply Green Gage as a bush plant - bigger than a maiden, a 2 or 3 year old plant with 3 - 5 stems.

Supplier : R.V. Roger Ltd.

At the height of the lifting season - between November and March - there may be up to a month's delay between placing the order and dispatching due to pressure of orders, which are dealt with in date sequence, and the weather. Orders for gages from March to September are confirmed in late October/ early November ready for dispatch from November. Please consult our planting and care guide on receipt of your order.
