Pond Plant Collection

This beautiful starter native British plant collection for ponds is selected by experts and is superb for wildlife. Reckon on up to 8 plants per metre perimeter of your pond, which will also include plants for deeper water in the larger collections. We also include oxygenators (see below).

Depending on availability, the bare root or 4cm / 5cm plug pond plants are selected from a list of non-invasive native species to help create a balanced ecosystem, and include some of our most beautiful native plants. The smallest collection will include 5 species. All the plants are grown at a British nursery from guaranteed native seed. Your pond plant collection will come labelled and with a guide as to what to plant where.

Please note that these plug plants are only available on a seasonal basis. The nursery grows new stock from autumn to early spring, so we do not deliver over this period.

We include bunches of native oxygenators (typically hornwort, or possibly also Water crowfoot, Starwort or similar) free of charge in each collection. They're available seasonally, so you may have a wait.

We used this native pond plant selection for our wildlife pond in combination with the pond edge seed mix (available on our British Pond Plants website in small quantities), which will give you a more diverse collection of species.

Plants are selected from:

Pond Edge:
Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris)
Water forget me not (Myosotis palustris)
Water Plantain(Alisma aquatic-plantago)
Brooklime (Veronica beccabunga)
Yellow Flag Iris (Iris pseudacorus)
Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria)
Water mint (Mentha aquatica)
Lesser Spearwort(Ranunculus flammula)
Slender Tufted Sedge (Carex acuta)

Ragged Robin (Lychnis flos-cucli)
Meadowsweet(Filipendula ulmaria)
Marsh Woundwort(Stachys palustris)
Water Avens (Geum rivale)

Deeper Water:
Flowering Rush (Butomus umbellatus)
Greater spearwort (Ranunculus lingua) - larger sizes only

From May to September we will also add other deeper water varieties with very limited availability if we are able to.

In order to keep prices down we do not include Water Lilies in this native pond plant collection, which are available as a separate item and which we would recommend including in larger ponds.
