As with many apples, the origin of Adam's Pearmain isn't clear. A Mr Robert Adams presented a scion to the RHS in 1826, calling it the Norfolk Pippin, although it was also supposedly about in Herefordshire, where it was called the Hanging Pearmain. All very confusing. Anyway, Adam's Pearmain is an attractive heavily cropping apple tree producing apples which were particularly popular with the Victorians. London fruiterers apparently found them particularly helpful as they looked good in their shop windows.
